Green Roots Project 2014 Launched!!!

In 2014, JCI Barbados will continue the Green Roots Project and we've got some great things coming your way.
  • We will be hosting the Green Roots Environmental Project which seeks to be a research and beautification project. The main aim is to create a waste management pilot which is run by the community that produces the waste.
  • We will also continue our famous hikes and tours to introduce persons to more historical places of interests, our wonderful gully and our pristine beaches.
  • The addition of an educational panel discussion entitled “Does the public want to know: A candid conversation on identifying and conserving our heritage.”  will open your eyes to how you truly feel or don't feel about the environment
  • An online competition "Where's Toby" featuring our lovable mascot Toby will also be conducted for a special prize donated by one of our fantastic sponsors
  • any much, much more!!!!

If you want to get involved, please contact us for more information.

History of Green Roots

In 2008, JCI Barbados conducted a study of the Barbadian public to assess the Barbadian public's knowledge of the history of this little 266 square mile isle we call home.  Unfortunately, results indicated that almost 70% of Barbadians are not knowledgeable of their heritage.

In 2013, the initiative was relaunched to build public awareness of our historic sites and instill pride in our beautiful island. It commenced in March with a historic walk of the Garrison Historic Area and planned to have a sequence of similar treks this year at the end of each quarter - Speightown, Holetown and Bridgetown are on the way!

The success of the project is its evolution as seen in the 2014 project which promises bigger and better things with a more environmental focus.
