History of Green RootsIn 2008, JCI Barbados conducted a study of the Barbadian public to assess the Barbadian public's knowledge of the history of this little 266 square mile isle we call home. Unfortunately, results indicated that almost 70% of Barbadians are not knowledgeable of their heritage.
In 2013, the initiative was relaunched to build public awareness of our historic sites and instill pride in our beautiful island. It commenced in March with a historic walk of the Garrison Historic Area and planned to have a sequence of similar treks this year at the end of each quarter - Speightown, Holetown and Bridgetown are on the way! The success of the project is its evolution as seen in the 2014 project which promises bigger and better things with a more environmental focus. |
