Regeneration Nation Fashion Show - March 2016
On March 12, the Green Roots committee of JCI Barbados hosted the inaugural Regeneration Nation Fashion Show. The awarding of prizes for the Green Roots Art Competition was also a segment of the show. The fashion show and the art competition were the first of their kind for the committee.
The fashion show and Secondary School component of the art competition were under the environmental awareness theme: "The three new R’s – Regeneration, Resurgence & Rejuvenation". While the Primary School component of the art competition was under the theme: "The three R’s – Reduce, Reuse & Recycle".
Designers for the fashion show were given the opportunity to be creative and innovative by designing garments which provided an alternative look to Reusing and Recycling solid waste items; items which we generate in our daily lives. The art competition gave students the opportunity to express their creativity in an artistic composition. Pieces depicted the use of recyclable waste materials that are generated in our daily lives. Designers for the fashion show consisted of Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) students.
Then talented models from across Barbados were recruited to model these masterpieces. The art competition consisted of Primary School students from the Roland Edwards Primary School and Secondary School students from the Alexandra Secondary School and the Deighton Griffith Secondary School.
